The Portland Timbers battled to another 0-0 tie last night, this time in Houston. The last time Portland scored a goal was in a 1-0 victory on April 21.

The goal on April 21 was actually an "own goal." The Timbers haven't put a ball in the opponent's goal since April 14.
One goal a month. Feel the excitement.
Meanwhile, Manchester City just scored twice in stoppage time to edge Manchester Untied - who had finished their match - in the most historic ending ever in the Premier League.
This has been a banner year for soccer and now with Euro 2012 coming up and the Bayern Munich/Chelsea match it should continue.
Meanwhile, the Paulsons are proving about as good at running a soccer team as Henry Paulson was at running the economy.
Breaking news: Dwight Jaynes is now reporting that Paul Allen is building a computer robot of himself that he will sell the Blazers to and then hire Merritt Paulson to be the GM.
So they're having growing pains ... oh well. Houston made it to the MLS finals last year so keeping them from scoring last night at their stadium deserves a pat on the back. Should we throw in the towel for the Timbers this early after just their second year in the MLS? Heck no. Patience. Go Timbers!
Disagreed. They're doing the best they can out there, or at least I hope they are, but its just not good enough. I think it says something when the Timbers play good teams and keep them from scoring. Low scoring games are the norm in soccer afterall.
J d PDX,
I was surprised to read that Houston made it to the Finals. What I saw last night was a team that sucked as much as we did. They needed 3 or 4 things to go right in a buildup and most times the 3rd or 4th person made an unforced error.
If you take out the last 4 or 5 minutes the match was a real dud. Perkins made some nice saves toward the end, but overall this game had a very limited entertainment value.
Low scoring games can be very exciting, but this had that dreary hopeless feeling like scoring goals for either team would take a miracle.
I thought the Timbers were much more fun to watch last year.

Thank you for that clarification. They're like the early Mets, only without the charm.

Growing pains is one thing. Not having scored a goal in over a month is just plain pathetic, regardless of how long your team has been in existence.
