Big night ahead

We've been resting up all afternoon for tonight's election results. Given who the leading candidates are, and the way they've been covered by the local mainstream media, there's no likelihood that we'll be getting good news about the next four years in Portland, but we should be learning which version of bad we're going to be suffering through.

It looks there's going to be a lot of run-offs, which means we're going to get another 6 months of campaigning.

I guess in the end that's a good thing. It'd be a real shame for the next mayor to get swept in with less than 15% of the vote.

Oregon is just playing the next stanza of "Nearer my God to Thee".

They're rearranging the political deck chairs: the only unknown is who gets blamed when the music stops.

I voted, but I'm not sure why. Miss-placed sense of civic duty maybe. Who ever gets to be mayor will be deluged with special interests (people whose whole life (or livelihood!) revolves around one thing) and at the bottom of that list are the people who would just like the government to provide Police, Fire protection and clean streets.

Portland always gets what they want, unlike the rest of the state. And they get what they deserve. That's because we live in a representative democracy, this republic that we live in. Fun times tonight!

I also voted, if only to sustain my belief that if you don't vote you SHOULDN'T BITCH !

Interestingly, Charlie's holding his party at his office, while Jefferscam has rented a ballroom. Good positioning for November on Hales' part.

Eileen Brady is celebrating aboard a yacht while Emily Boyles is eating popcorn in her double-wide.

Mayor-elect Hales has announced he'll move his campaign HQ to Camas: he can still vote for himself in November and won't have to pay any income tax on bribes for the next six months.

Wait, I thought this blog was about Portland and Oregon not the electoral machinations of Stevenson, WA.
