Let it flow
The wonderful troublemakers known as Friends of the Reservoirs sent the "leading" Portland City Council candidates a questionnaire soliciting their views on a variety of issues facing the city's out-of-control water bureau. Only Mary Nolan blew them off entirely, but several of the others decided to be highly selective in which questions they would or wouldn't answer. The results are here.
We wish they wouldn't have succumbed to the disease of leaving out the "minor" candidates. Especially since one of them is Scott Fernandez, with whom they are closely aligned. In any event, the candidates' answers (and non-answers) make for some fascinating reading.

I don't know what sums up Charlie Hales's shallowness and arrogance more: the fact that he only answered five out of the twenty questions, or that his response effectively included a campaign ad for his Web site in the first paragraph. If this bozoid becomes mayor, Portland's had it, because he's going to make Sam Adams look like a workaholic shut-in.

That Charlie Hales is a brave one.
He's in the "more of the same / status quo" camp.

I think Eileen Brady gave the best responses- as far as this survey is concerned.
As for Hales, Novick, and No-show - typical mealy mouthed nothingness.

Eileen Brady and Amanda Fritz have both given this a lot of thought, I was pleased to see.

I agree. If this was all I had to evaluate the candidates on I would certainly vote for Brady and Fritz. Agree with jack that it was unfortunate that the others in the field didn’t get a chance to respond.

An Opinion:
At this point, leaving out Fernandez can only be characterized as intentional, particularly in the case of the Friends of Reservoirs. There can be no other reasonable conclusion. The relevance of their questionnaire has little meaning because of their support of a failed strategy, the variance rather than the waiver. The variance drags this out with little end in sight, except for the waiver.
Scott has further information posted this blog, April 16 under "Now that they've chased Siltronic.....
I also believe that some sort of print media cabal exists where all support is going towards Hales. The splinter groups are going along to get along. Why is Hales Numero Uno in all so far that have indicated their support?
In any case, it's wise to follow the money trail, if any exists.
The fix is in. Anyone planning to monitor election results?

Novick has my vote--everyone else uses too much politi-speak.

Eileen Brady said she opposes the water bureau tours of the bull run watershed because bringing 6000 people there every year up increases the risk of contaminating our water. How so? I've taken the tour and you are never out of sight of the tour guide. It's a small group on a small bus. She doesn't seem all that bright.

My mistake 6000 people in three years.

Cindy O,
Are you aware that Novick has said he wants fluoride in our water? This was a few months ago, at that meet, some informed him that this is not a natural fluoride, but a waste product.
He may have changed his mind.
Maybe that issue doesn't matter to you, but if it does, ask him what his current position is?
