You made your bed, now sleep in it

It appears that after the City of Beaverton buys the office building at the disastrous Round site, it may move City Hall and the police department in. This is what the scientists call "fail convergence."

When you gonna comment on the mayor's state of the city speech?

This pretty much says it all... "For the past decade, city, regional and TriMet officials have touted The Round as the centerpiece of Beaverton’s downtown economic revitalization and a regional showcase for innovative mixed-use commercial and residential light-rail development. The Beaverton City Council originally thought enough of The Round concept to help get the development by leveraging the site of the city’s former sewage treatment plant and investing in a parking structure.”

This was from the Valley Times Aug. 2007

Al M,

I was there...a tidy veneer about all the wonderful things happening in Portland, but at least 2 mentions of the lack of sidewalks on the East Side.

No indication of any problems, and a big shoutout to all the potential newcomers to P-town.

If I didn't know better, it's almost a utopia here.

There's definately something fishy going on with this - when has an economic development dept ever bought something at 50% market value?

Are they assuming all the construction defects?

When the Mayor and the Police Chief start riding MAX to and from their homes at least 4 days a week, we'll know The Round is a success.

Until then, EPIC FAIL.

I am utterly amazed at the flawless logic that is behind the move: "We would be losing money by keeping the city departments in their present leased space, so let's take that money and throw it at the Round so we can stay there for free."

FAIL RAIL is all across the region and the agencies and politicians involved are spending millions more to cover up their failure.
They are telling all the same lies about light rail invigorating Milwaukie, McLoughlin, Barbur and 99W as they spend millions more to expand the insanity.
It all must be stopped ASAP.
The only way that happens is to expand the Clackistani rebellion as fast as possible.

The Round is as bad as it gets and is the poster child for how Transit Oriented Development is a fraud.
The Rose Quarter/Convention Center/Lloyd district is the mother of all FAIL RAIL debacles with every rail and development subsidy imaginable FAILING to spur the promised private boom.
Even with multiple rail lines and facilities stagnation persists awaiting bigger tax subsidies as if nothing had ever been tried.
Elect Hales and it will be a new Hotel=FAIL, Tax subsidized coliseum development=FAIL and a bankrupt city and region.
