Portland State kicks the tires

The Big Three mayoral candidates in Portland will be kissing up to the "planning" mafia (and the real estate developers who own them) at the PSU Patronage Center Wednesday evening. Hales is clearly their best bet, but Brady will likely try to say the things they want to hear as well. Smith will doubtlessly make the audience seem like level-headed pragmatists by comparison.

Apparently not invited was the rest of the candidate field, including Scott Fernandez and Max Brumm, who'd be better choices than any of the invitees.

Brady will likely try to say the things they want to hear ...

I have heard that Brady excels at saying things people want to hear ... Even if it means saying different things to different people.

I am growing more and more worried that Eileen Brady is Sam Adams' long lost sister.

Gee, who really runs this city? No wonder elections never change anything.

I pray Jefferson Smith doesn't get into the November runoff. This guy uses school children to promote his Bus project which slurps money off government.

But he is a very likely candidate in the November runoff because Willamette Week is attacking Eileen Brady with actual pretty solid allegations (But I wish they would back off because the mainstream alternatives to this unexperienced candidate stink). Geez, I would sooner have the very politically wounded and unaffective Adams of his first two mayorial years. Then, too, Jefferson Smith is thought cooler among the young crowd than Hales.

Portland's electorate is messed up, and should make folks think twice about living inside the city limits. Case in point: Tre Arrow is said to be polling at 7% of the vote (before recent news of potential domestic violence but after he serves time in Canada after firebombing logging businesses).

Exit strategy. You've got to have one if you live within the city limits of Portland.

Scott and Max should find an interviewer and put their responses here and in Street Roots. The O probably would not pay attention, but neighborhood papers and the Trib might. Those of us who want candidates with the same story wherever they go should have a chance to hear other voices.

Will there be a May(or) Madness bracket?

If the polls are to be believed then Fair Trade Corporatist should be the top seed, the Light Rail Mafia is the second seed, the Bus Project is the third and the Tree Occupier is the fourth.

Are there any potential Cinderellas among the other 19 candidates?
