Sam Adams's next gig?

Maybe Portland's "unique" mayor can become the chief executive at an alternative energy company. Or perhaps Jeffer-Sam can take on that role after he flames out in the mayor's race. They'd both be perfect: No one in their right mind wants the job.

I hear Sam Adams has a lot of experience in Bankruptcy court. It's a perfect job for him.

Sam the Scam would tweet his way into a securities law violation in his first week in office.

Oh, I think he'd take it. Just so long as the bankruptcy proceedings involved getting a hefty executive retention bonus no matter what happens, the way Borders execs got their "anywhere but liquidation" bonuses anyway, I could see him bouncing from company to company for years. It's gotta be better than working, right?

Sam Adams's next gig?

A gig at Tri-Met?
That is if he can send enough money over for the Milwaukie Light Rail?

Unless there's another community somewhere with governing bodies as f*cked up and in each other's pants as the ones around here, I'm bet the mayor's next gig in government has already been promised by appointment and will be right right under our very noses.

"I'm bet the mayor's next gig in government has already been promised by appointment and will be right right under our very noses."

My bet is that he'll become a "Senior Fellow" at the "Portland Sustainability Institute" - he founded the thing, and has made sure that it has been lavishly funded by government. Something that pays well, and has little real responsibility.

He can pick up the trash........

Given that he's been appearing on Portlandia (or so I'm told; I make it a point to miss the show whenever it's on) and hanging out with the Decemberists, I'm sure he'll tilt toward whatever continues to elevate his "celebrity." Don't know if that means he'll host a "progressive" talk show or radio program or what. Good riddance.

Clinamen, regarding your comment about Sam getting a TriMet job if he sends over enough MLR dollars. He already has. He was one of the chief lobbyist in Salem to gather the $250 Million in state lottery dollars for MLR. Then he stole $10 Million from SoWhat TIF dollars and then another $10 Million from SoWhat SDC (service develop charges), then another $5 Million from the Sellwood Bridge funds for MLR. Then he goes to JPACT and steals some more.

The only way they are able to dump concrete in the Willamette for the bike/ped/lightrail new bridge is based on these funds. All the fed, state, Milwaukie and Clackamas Co. funds are being held up, and probably never coming. That is why they are pouring fast so they can claim, "we can't stop now". Oh, we can, we'll have to.

He's the ultimate thief.

I can't understand why somebody wouldn't want to take a job with a struggling company. It's really a shame these companies are struggling, but being the underdog should appeal, not deter. The great thing about these industries is that they don't cash out our own natural resource balance (just our checking accounts), and they diversify our portfolio of energy sources, salving the pain of one source becoming more expensive.

It was pretty great driving from Portland to Baker last week and enjoying the sight of all that revenue going to some pretty hard-up counties and farmers.

Say what you will about the BS giveaways to get these companies here (or at the fed level, just getting them feasible), it is a shame that we continue to be dependent on resource extraction for so much of our energy needs when the wind blows across the plains and the sun shines all across the southwest.

I have it good authority that Sam will be a dancer at a gay club once his term as mayor is over. That has been his dream job for a long time and now he'll be able to pursue it. He also plans to ride his bike nude to and from the dancing job. He has also been promised an on-going role in Portlandia.

Even Frank Ivancie had the decency to take an obscure federal gig and stay out of our sight.

If you're a successful turn-around artist and can take a struggling company and make it successful, it's a great job that comes with huge rewards.

However, Sam Adams has neither the experience, the track record, or the ability to do such a thing. His record of being the C.E.O. of the major multi-national corporation Portland, Oregon, Incorporated has been filled with scandal, corrupt activity, political favors, declining revenue, increasing debt, questionable spending - basically, all the things that in the business world would get him fired and replaced with a turn-around guy.

My guess is that he'll definitely find himself in a government job - TriMet seems to be home to a lot of government flacks, so is Metro. Unless he decides to run for Governor.

Andy: I think he's a little old for that job.
