New weather language: "potentially historic"
It might snow in Portland tonight, and the weather guessers are pulling out all the adjectives. Depending on which hype one reads, we could have 10 inches of snow on the ground in the morning.
Or we might have nothing. It's 38 degrees Fahrenheit right now.
Stay tuned to bojack.org StormCenter 9000.2 for all the latest. And every time you hear someone say "wintry mix," drink a shot.

Wintry mix to you then!

You mean that's not chex and white chocolate-coated raisins?

The weather honks are already backtracking on the radio. All the talk on my commute home was wind and rain related. Would have liked a free day off with a 1/4 inch on the ground, but doesn't look like it's in the cards

Two fingers of that wintry mix for me, please

Doesn't the use of exclamation marks turn a news story into an opinion piece?
"Copious." "Substantial." I think this writer was just as giddy about the snow as my kids were.

or "potentially hysterical"

It's all about where you are located. Co-worker in hills about Camas ... snowed in today with 9 inches.... Co-worker in the boonies near Vernonia ... over a foot of snow... today @ 5 AM dry streets at my house... 6:30 AM 1.5 inches... 7:15 AM melting.. As I learned in New England.. don't like the weather.. wait a spell, it will change
Now the wind could be the real story for tomorrow.

37 degrees and raining gently in Salmon Creek, NOTAXCOUVER.
But don't go to weather.com as it's hard to find the temperature amongst all the bold red graphics and flashing weather warnings.

"Potentially historic," but actually histrionic.

Salmon Creek, WA topped out at 2" of pebble flaked snowed. It's almost entirely melted already BUT THEY CANCELLED SCHOOL FOR THE ENTIRE DAY.
Doh!

Another reason we've stopped watching local "news"; the reality-tv-show that is weather "reporting".
Having seen true severe weather tear the roof off the school next door to our apt in Oklahoma (before getting into the bath tub with our 4 year old and pulling the matress over the top of them both), the lady of the house gets absolutely disgusted with the hysteria show here in the PNW.
