Last 'dog won't hunt

Indy went down to another defeat this evening, and so no new points have been scored in our charity pro football underdog game. The standings as of last night become the final standings for the weekend. The next slate of hounds should be available tomorrow.

One thing the NFL season has brought us is a conclusive answer to the long-standing "Brady or Manning?" debate.

When Brady got hurt in 2008, the Patriots replaced him with Matt Cassell, who couldn't even start at USC. Did the Patriots collapse? Not hardly. This was the team that went 16-0 in 2007, choking away the Super Bowl. But with Brady missing virtually the entire season, they still went 11-5, just missed the playoffs, and scored 410 points. When Brady returned in 2009, they went 10-6 while scoring 427 points.

Manning's Colts went 10-6 last year, scoring 435 points. Without him, they're probably a 4-12 team and are on pace right now to score 252 points.

There are obviously other factors at play here. (Among them, the Colts' long-standing presumption that they didn't need a backup QB.) But if you were truly one of the five greatest quarterbacks ever, don't you think your team would miss you when you were hurt?
