I'm sure our mayor wouldn't mind seeing a cockatoo...
Australia is going bat crazy on a whole range of issues of which the general populace is being totally ignored. They just enacted a carbon tax. Meanwhile 2011 is coming in at around 0.37 degrees cooler than 2010 (which wipes out almost half the warming over the last 150 years.)
The answer is obviously no more elevators! Make those urban dwellers walk up flights of stairs! Keep the populace fit! and reduce green house gases too!
Can't climb stairs? Too bad, get a shopping cart and head over to 4th and Burnside, and pitch a tent.
I drove by there today and I must say I rather like the door wall....

I recall fretting about Detroit's problems years ago. I thought we can't let that happen to one of our towns.
These many years later I see it as, "I can't really care too much about what those people choose do to themselves."
My Portland attitude is nearly in the same place.
