UPDATE. 1:32 p.m.: The Niners come through over the rapidly disintegrating Eagles, and Buffalo falls to earth. No luck for Pittsburgh and Carolina. Four orphan little 'dogs also prevailed in the first games of the day. AKevin takes the lead in our standings with a second big winner in a row, 18.5 points overall.

OK, Carolina made it a game for long enough to keep my pulse rate up, but the rest, it appears, is history... sorry Mojo - guess I should have gone with the first instinct and picked Oakland.

And congrats to those who picked Cincy!

Uh, by "those" I meant Moneymaker. Nice pick.

Niners about to earn ten for a lucky few.

It's one of those transitional times: If you had said last year that some of the most fun, intriguing teams to watch in the NFL were the Lions, the Panthers, the Texans, the Bills and even the Bengals, they would have locked you up. If you had added that the Raiders and the Redskins didn't suck, they would have thrown away the key.

As an Eagles fan, I always feel ahead. We are in the post-McNabb/Westbrook era and it would be wrong not to pay some respects for what a blast it was, just as we marked the end of the great defense with Reggie White and Jerome Brown. Painful? Of course, but it's all about not quitting during the tough times.

I feel very good for the Detroit Lions right now.

Well, jmh, I just came down out of the woods to find the Raiders getting smashed. Got a kick out of the 49ers final score. Former Eagles K, Akers, DID end up kicking the game winner.

I'm confused, Jack. Are they picking the losers?

Our players are each choosing an underdog (in caps) that they think will win its game outright, without the benefit of the point spread. So far, only two 'dogs prevailed.
