Multnomah County short another $11 million

County chair Jeff Cogen says the cuts are going to be "devastating" -- mental health workers, probation officers, that sort of thing. When you think about all the worthless junk local government does have the money for -- the list of nonsense expenditures is as long as your arm -- it's gotta raise your blood pressure a little. Maybe the Portland Development Commission ought to recruit a bulletproof vest manufacturer to town so that we can all buy local.

"Maybe the Portland Development Commission ought to recruit a bulletproof vest manufacturer to town so that we can all buy local."

Thanks for making me spit tea on my keyboard.

More urban renewal districts ought to finish off MultCo for good giving CoP the opportunity to assimilate its responsibilities and bring it under the asphyxiating grip of its 'guiding hand'.

Bulls eye T-shirts would be better and cheaper investments as the fool gang-bangers seldom hit their targets.

No one local makes rope any more either.

I should also have added, tar and feathers.

$11 million? Well, that's the cost of the Mayor's twitterers right there.

Aren't they losing like $18 million a year to Urban Renewal? Or was it more than that?

The PDC projected last year that the PPS would lose $193 million over the next 5 years.

The report leaked but the PDC, school district and the Oregonian suppressed that information.

It has yet to appear in any media but here and other blog comments.

It's impossible to improve on that remark.

RE: no money

Recall how we are always told that money in one bucket can't be used to pay shortfalls in other buckets.

Unless of course, a pet project is being funded.

Also, I'm pretty sure Multnomah County and City of Portland haven't learned how to share.

The Office of Equity and 2% for Art are still safe, right?

A suggestion. Mr Cogen should go ask CoP for money. They've got:
- $65M to lift 3000 ft of SW Moody 15 feet in the air
- $40M a year in extra water money from 3 years ago that they haven't had to spend on EPA stuff
- $10M to give to Gerding-Edlen to rehab their own building
- Plenty to repave the streets every 5 years downtown.

In sum, there is plenty of money in govt, it is just very poorly spent. We talk about equity and then we take money from the needy and give it away to Gerding/Homer and any solar power scam that walks on by.

Not breaking news - Politicians in this town are lying hypocrites.
