After this, he'll definitely want to retire

Poor Rick Adelman. The Portland basketball legend is moving to Minnesota to coach the Timberwolves. Which means he'll be working for another Portland product, general manager David Kahn, who isn't exactly renowned for knowing what he's doing.

At least Adelman will have a long time to brace himself for the shock of the frigid Minnesota winters and that truly anemic roster -- Sebastian Telfair, Martell Webster, Luke Ridnour, yuck! At the rate the NBA's labor talks are going, play won't start until after the holidays, and it may be pushed back to a whole year from now.

Have fun taking a year off, Adelman.

You know what's truly sad: The NBA TV channel right now. Sure they have some good stuff like the Magic/Bird documentary but mostly they cover a little of the talks and then switch into specials like, "The Top Ten Second Quarters of the 1950s." Imagine a year of that?

Who watches Pro Basketball anyway. The whole game is the 4th quarter and no longer do teams play as teams! Try some college basketball. Better team play and better coaching! The last era where pro basketball was interesting was when guys named Larry and Magic were playing, before that, Frazier, Reed, Bradley, Unseld, Monroe.....

Well, at least next week on 9/22 there will be some international level soccer in PDX. US v. Canada women - JeldWen. Probably the best caliber of team sports this city will see in all of 2011.

Better yet, with the NBA being sidelined for the season, people should look into watching hockey. Go local (Winterhawks) or watch some pro hockey. Hockey is truly a game of skill and passion, unlike how 95% of those NBA player dolts treat their game.

From what I've read, Adelman despises Kahn (going back to the latter's days at The O).

Adelman will make more money than Kahn, he has a longer contract than Kahn, he will control player personnel moves and he will report not to Kahn but to T-Wolves owner Glen Taylor.

Kahn will essentially be reduced to a suit with his own skybox. Until his contract expires. Then he'll be unemployed.

"Try some college basketball. Better team play and better coaching!"

If you beleive that, then you might consider watching the first 3 quarters of NBA games. The college game, aside from the tournament, is damn near unwatchable. Ask someone who has covered both the NCAA and NBA and they'll tell you the same.

Kahn will essentially be reduced to a suit with his own skybox. Until his contract expires. Then he'll be unemployed.

Bingo. There are a lot of rumblings in Minneapolis that Kahn's days are numbered. He won't be allowed to interfere with the team's operations to nearly the degree that he did when Rambis was coach. He'd better just sit back, keep quiet, and be glad that he's collecting a paycheck.
