Welches con man caught in the act!
A reader sent along a message last evening, and a telling photo:
Welches con man spotting in Sellwood (Key Bank at 13th and Tacoma). Thanks to you I was able to help save the guy on the right side of the picture some money. I called Mr. Welches out in the middle of his story and he tried to deny it at first but then just turned red faced and walked away. Last seen headed east on Tacoma.
No doubt his latest bar is nearby. He needs to get the baseball cap back. Without it he looks too much like the bum that he truly is.

The scraggly beard and Central City Concern shirt also provide clues that this guy is not what he claims to be during his deceptive thefts.

Hmm. I tend to dress like that. It echoes a blue collar tradition that is really as classic as the Arrow shirt man. Wonder where he went wrong? It does suggest that he's salvageable, however. Give him dough only if he lets you in on who does the bespoke.

He certainly doesn't appear to be going hungry. I agree, the baseball hat is a much better look on him.

So...has anyone offered to drive him to Welches, just to watch his reaction?

Your unhealthy obsession with this man gives insight into your lack of empathy.

Apparently they support the enabling of alcoholism up there. Not surprising.

Ran into him in the Brooklyn neighborhood a few weeks ago. Must be working his way south. It took me a second to recognize him, but his references to Welches were the tip off. After I laughed at him, he rephrased his question to ask me how far it was to Welches. He never did get as far as trying to ask me for money

Apparently they support personal use of employer's hardware and network while on the payroll up there on pill hill.

Most employers have no problem with that, if done on break or lunch periods.

I read this blog occasionally from work on my breaks but would never post from work. I at least want to keep my comments unaffiliated with my workplace, but then I also work for a private-sector employer.

To be clear, I use my personal machines and network for work and vice-versa. If I were readily identifiable, I would be required to put a disclaimer on anything I put out on the world. That is why I use one alias or another. Because sometimes the disclaimer isn't enough for HR. However, I am not on the public dole and yes there should be a different standard. Another site I am involved had to ban an OHSU employee or two for very flagrant behavior. And I have seen one post from a clearly identified OHSU employee on a third site that will mean that he will never be hired if I am on an interview panel where he shows up. That one is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

He has shaved his beard, but he was at SW 1st & SW Oak (near Skidmore fountain) last night (8/19/2011) around 6 pm.
As soon as he started his story about the lost pick up truck, I started laughing and asked him if that line really still works for him.
