Dickie's dead
Out in Elgin, Oregon (pop. 1800), a man has been shot to death by a police officer, and the townsfolk are sufficiently outraged as to call for shutting down the three-person city police department. As is so often the case, the initial details of the shooting don't hang together. But the critics say the officer in question "always had his hand on his gun."

Why would a cop let a guy put his rifle in the truck during a domestic dispute?
It makes no sense: it would be just as available to him in his truck as in his house.
Perhaps the officer planned to remove it from the truck without telling Dickie that was his intent.

Another killer with a badge and a bully complex. Too bad there is not some kind of statewide review for this. Many states have a Bureau of Investigations to look into police misconduct and major cases. Here we just let the neighboring thin blue line cover it up.

It ain't over til the fat lady sings, as they say. The investigation finds the shooting justified. The locals find the investigation questionable. The victims family finds lawyers to sue the city and the mayor. The whole thing has as many unanswered questions as it does irrate citizens. It ain't over....yet.
