I don't find the data retention bill to be that big of a deal. There is no stored content or logs of IP's visited. This requires retention of the logs of the IPs assigned to customers and their contact information. All of the big ISPs keep those records anyway for varying amounts of time. This will make all ISPs subject to the one year rule.
I'm sure this is less about saving the children than it is about the MPAA and RIAA lobbyists chasing DMCA violators.
