Read Tearing Down the Wall of Sound by Mick Brown.
It's a Specter bio, yes. But, the author's love of that music and thoroughgoing knowledge of his subject matter is a delight. The author even has an excellent narrative style.
It was very surprised as I didn't care about the period music or the man until I read the book.
I would be difficult to exaggerate the many good qualities of this book.
I found even the story of the Ronnettes fascinating.
