The big 4 mindblowers for me about the musical history of Portland are the recording of "Louie, Louie", Woody Guthrie living in the Lents neighborhood, the Beatles playing Memorial Coliseum, and John Philip Sousa rocking Oaks Park with up to a dozen different concerts. Wow, John Philip Sousa in the hizzle. It's too much.
As far as this recording, the orchestra rules in general but the trombone section shreds. They are really throwing down for the people.

Recent Harvard study points out that this sort of stuff is right wing.

LL - Funny thing, Sousa took some of his own ragtime tunes to the 1900 Paris exposition and influenced Debussy to write a few ragtime pieces. In turn, Debussy influenced Miles Davis and Bill Evans. Doesn't look that right wing to me.
Can you provide a link to your Harvard study?

Evidently I gave only a partial report, it's 4th of July parades - still where you gonna find Sousa?
