Transportation Sue is back

Here's an interesting story out of Portland City Hall: Sue Keil, who recently bailed out of the top spot in the mayor's Transportation Bureau, has now agreed to serve as interim director of Commissioner Nick Fish's Parks Bureau. Apparently her retirement wasn't about wanting more leisure time.

Do you really think anyone in govt can find a real productive job in the real world?

Where else would she go? It's either govt or someone who wants to get govt money.

I pictured her heading out to the golf course. But maybe she was just trying to get away from her current job situation.

She a double dipper?.... many of those types around here.

What is her salary? She probably isn't doing the job for free.

I know Sue very well and she works because she loves to work. She is also probably the only Republican in any city management position. She worked hard to keep many of Adams' lunacies at bay, including putting a stop to recycling the Sauvie island bridge by informing him of the true costs involved. The longer she hangs in there the better off we all are.

"she works because she loves to work."

All well and good, but how about she collect her pension and work at a non-profit?

Double-dipping means pouring more money into one person instead of hiring someone new (if the job is needed at all) and helps alleviate some of the unemployment.

If I go to hell, I'm sure I will be working under the direct supervision of the Sam Rands.

If I retired from my job, then came back to work in another branch as a W-2 employee, I would be reinstated as a current employee (not a retiree), and pension payments would be put on hold.

Are we sure she's double dipping?

Like another commentor here, I know Sue well. We have crossed sowards often.

But though we have disafgreed upon budget issues and priorities, I alwys knew that in dealing with here there were no hideen agendas.

I can't say the same about my experiences with her successor at PBOT over the last 90 days.

Parks is lucky to have her, and the City more so.

Parks needs a whopping big dose of integrity at the top echelon of that bureau.

"If I retired from my job, then came back to work in another branch as a W-2 employee, I would be reinstated as a current employee (not a retiree), and pension payments would be put on hold."

You can work 1000 hours a year in a PERS covered job (or a million hours in a non-PERS job) and still collect your pension. So yes she is most likely double dipping.

Having experienced government work I can tell you these "Directors" make north of $100k and when they show up, over see multiple layers of managers, They are the liaison between mayors office and their bureau. I think a Really cute messenger boy in tight little shorts would be so portland and the money saved divided up between managers to keep their mouths shut.
