Time out
Whatever one might think of the performance of Randy Leonard as a politician, this is a sad moment. Condolences from this blog are the last thing he wants, I suspect, but I'll offer them anyway.

It is a thing beyond consolation.

Really horrifying. Condolences to his entire family.

There is no worse loss than the premature death of ones child. My sincere condolences to Randy and his family.

As a parent myself and having had family members that have struggled in this modern age, this is a worst nightmare come true for anyone with children.
We are all human, however we may disagree.

My condolences as well.

So sad. Politics have nothing to do with this tragedy.

My condolences to all who loved her, her parents and children in particular.

My sympathy goes out to the Leonard family, especially the poor kid who doesn't have his mother anymore. I hope they can find some peace in time.

Sad indeed. Condolences for the whole family. May she find the peace that couldn't find her here.

Me too.
I'll not be able to comment on Randy any longer.
He's just been sentenced to life in the worst kind of misery.
If I were him I would probably consider leaving the ugliness of politics in search of occasional moments of peace and distraction.
It's hard to imagine what's it would be like being awake and thinking about my gone daughter.
Man oh man, that is deep deep pain.

The right words are hard to find. My heart goes out to Randy and his family.

No matter how difficult life can be, this result is never the right answer. The Leonard family deserves our kindness, sympathy, and love at this terrible time.

My condolences to the Leonard family at this sad time.

That's the worst thing that can happen to a parent. I'm truly sorry for his loss.

Perhaps this a moment for you to reflect on the snarkiness of your blog. If you actually need to say you offer "sincere" condolences don't bother. It's an insult. You've wanted the demise of everyone in Portland politics without ever offering a constructive alternative. You should have left this alone...Shame on you Jack!

Condolences are condolences plain and simple. It seems that you Jason are the one using the misery of one to take a stab at another. The shame is on you. Grow up.

Wow. My sympathies. Knowing a little bit about addiction through education, and a little personal experience, I can say that heroin and opiate addiction are some of the hardest recoveries out there. New therapeutic drugs can help, other than methadone, but are expensive and often not covered by insurance. Another example of our health care system gone wrong.
What a beautiful young woman. My sorrow bends toward Randy Leonard and his family for their loss.

Jason, for you to use this occasion to vent on me does not reflect well on you. Please save your vitriol for some other time and place.

Heaven forbid that there be some dissenting opinions from what the cult of personality in City Hall wants to do, Jason. Grow up.
People can express their opinions in one post, and their well-wishes in another without it being somehow 'shameful' or 'insulting'. Suggesting otherwise makes you sound like a bitter sycophant.
This country is at it's best when people are fighting for what they believe in, and trying to convince others in spirited debate. The best of what American-style Democracy has produced is the product of these debates - the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Civil Rights Act, etc. etc.
Just cool it with the political hackery already, and let some people express some genuine condolences for someone that is going through every parent's worst nightmare - no matter who that someone is, and what their political views may be.

Ad hominem, like profanity, usually reflects the depth of the author’s intellect, rather than the short comings of the target.

Randy has joined a very select group of parents. I can tell you from personal experience, what Randy is going through will be the most painful experience of his life. Losing a child is simply the worst that life has to offer.
Randy can take some small solace knowing that for the rest of his life, he will never face anything as painful. He will also be uniquely qualified to provide comfort and consolation to other parents who suffer a similar fate.
My son would have turned 30 today.
