Incredible how ignorant of the law police can be. In Portland you're not allowed to open carry, however having a CHL exempts you from that law. I am sure with my CHL if I were to open carry, something similar would happen to me. HOW DARE HE WALK DOWN THE STREET OBEYING THE LAW.

You really can't expect the average cop to have knowledge of all the byzantine laws of their jurisdiction at their fingertips while out on the street when half the time even lawyers have to go look what the h*ll it all means.
HOWEVER, you would certainly think that that one ought to be well known and understood. I'll bet they get it know.

Guns don't kill people, cops with guns kill people.

Please tell us what CHL stands for. I'm guessing it means "concealed handgun license", but I don't know for sure.
If it does mean concealed, then how would it exempt you from open carry? Open carry isn't concealed.

CHL means concealed handgun license, yes There is a whole slew of laws in ORS that pertain to disallowing one to carry guns, etc At the end of the law, it exempts CHL holders from these laws. I would look it up, but i am on a mobile device now it is easy to find online

Lesson learned. Next time, they'll just shoot the guy. Less embarrassing.
