I rode out the 71 San Fernando quake, then the 89 SF quake. Either of those was terrifying enough on its own. The aftershocks come with the event. They took over a year to get used to. To imagine the aftershocks being the size of the two quakes I experienced is almost incomprehensible. Along with the nuclear event, the impact on the psyche of these people has to be next to immeasurable.

I watched a show on cable last night about the potential for a 9.0 magnitude megathrust quake along the Cascadia fault off the Pacific NW coast. I had some trouble sleeping and then was fixated on all the unreinforced masonry buildings that I passed on the way to work.
