There's nothing inherently wrong with Google using any legal means to transport their streetview cameras about public areas, as well as any private area that will allow them access.
But it does increase the liklihood that they'll be encountering that boundary between legal and illegal data collection more often.
And their record of good behavior in this situation hasn't been good.

On an Animal Planet show, I saw footage taken from a camera strapped to a cat's collar.
