Final tally for Kroger 2010 press releases: 142

Our count of the press releases and similar e-mail missives emanating from the office of Oregon Attorney General John Kroger in 2010 ended up at 142. That's 2.7 press releases a week. A little more than half of those (73) were sent out in the first six months of the year.

For comparison's sake, we were keeping track of the same types of info-blasts issued by Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown, and her tally topped out at a mere 61, of which well more than half (35) came out in the first six months.

They both slowed down toward the end, but there's no doubt who had the bigger horn to blow -- by more than a two-to-one margin.

If the number of press releases issued actually correlated with the amount of work accomplished, we'd have the squeakiest-clean, corruption-free state government. Last time I checked, though, a governor's girlfriend can still get a plum state contract, the PERS board can still hire outside counsel to fight disclosure, the Portland City Council can continue its fiscal profligacy and incompetence with no oversight, and a mayor can behave questionably with a youth/young adult and then lie about it to get elected and face no legal consequences.

Thanks for nothing, John.

Brown sent out a couple of press releases this morning, putting her in a rare lead as the new year begins.
