Show us your library card!

Beautiful photos of some patrons of the Multnomah County Public Library.

No doubt these photos will re-appear in the campaign porn coming soon to your mailbox in support of MultCo Measure 26-114 (library district).

The guy with the stick up his nose surely represents the Portland creative crowd.

If you want to be included in the pictures, the next photo opportunity will be at the Gresham Library on Oct. 19th from 10:00am until 2:00pm. Just be sure to bring your library card.

You may get a free library card if you are a resident of Multnomah or Washington counties in Oregon; or Clark, Skamania and Klickitat counties in Washington; or if you live in Camas, Woodland or Yale in Washington. If you live in Clackamas County, and outside the city limits of Damascus or Johnson City, you may also get a free library card.

I see lots of white just like a Tea Party rally.

I often use the Multnomah County Library system. Lot of white people there. It's a problem, but no one is willing to talk about it.

Hood River County closed its library. It has perhaps the most beautiful view of any library in Oregon. I work in that county and town and used it daily. Miss it much. However, I admire voters who realize that you've got to pay your bills.

Wow, beautiful photos of smiling people using their local library and yet commenters find snarky things to say (except for John). Thank you, John.

That is wonderful. Our library system is second to none here in Multnomah county. Amazing it came from this county! We use the library several times a week. My wife checks out several books, and she also goes to the free "Book Babies" classes with my one year old son. It's enriching and wonderful.

But what if you happen to LIKE snarky things?

Oh well, okay: Thank you, Andrew Carnegie, for your generous philanthropy, and your successful capitalism beforehand.

I'm snarky because I use at least four branches regularly and several others besides.

The noise level, the absolutely bizarre and personal conversation of the librarians, and on and on can make the library a very trying experience.

The absolute cynosure of all that is an irritant in the Multnomah County Library system can be seen in the mall-like experience of the new Kenton branch (a pretty swank street indeed if you'd care to see how your tax dollars work).

Oh yes, the system is like being in your living room. However, I don't want to be in your living room.

That being said, the system does have many excellences and that is what draws be back. Although, I pre-order everything online to minimize the Libary experience.

How come no photos of the filthy "road warriors" and homeless who use the beautiful downtown library as an outhouse ?
