Have a great weekend

God, I love George. I've been a John person my whole life, but I really love George. Thanks for this one.

Paul. It was always about Paul. Cute guy. But happy 70th this week for John wherever he might be.

Doris took the words RIGHT out of my mouth!

Here is the inspiration the Beatles were channeling when they decided to do the Roll Over Beethoven cover. (Apparently the Chuck Berry performance was for French television and I don't know what to say about some of the squares in the audience.)

The Beatles covered a lot of Chuck Berry tunes in their early days. As did the Stones, the Beach Boys, Springsteen...

The British Invasion of the 1960s was a great example of American music being re-interpreted and re-introduced to us by young British performers.

The Beatles covered a wonderful mix of American musical styles during the years that they recorded and performed covers. Last summer I put together a set of my favorites by the Beatles AND the original artists and it turned out to be one of the best mix tapes of my 'career'.

Here is the set list:

Anna - Arthur Alexander
Chains - The Cookies
Baby It's You - The Shirelles
Twist and Shout - The Isley Brothers
Soldier Of Love - Arthur Alexander
A Shot Of Rhythm And Blues - Arthur Alexander
Crying, Waiting, Hoping - Buddy Holly
Please Mr. Postman - The Marvelettes
Roll over Beethoven - Chuck Berry
You've Really Got a Hold on Me - The Miracles
Devil in His Heart - The Donays
Money - Barrett Strong
Rock and Roll Music - Chuck Berry
Words of Love - Buddy Holly
Honey Don't - Carl Perkins
Act Naturally – Buck Owens

The Stones set out to be an R&B band. The Beatles were a pop band at least until they found their guru.
