It helps when you forget to pick them for a day or two (during the summer one plant produces a zillion of them a day) and they get to be the size of baseball bats.

I once visited a friend for the weekend out in the country. Everywhere I went, out of habit, I asked if I should lock the car. My friend kept saying, "Naw, it safe out here."
Then, we went to church. As I was getting out, my friend said, "Lock the car."
Surprised, I asked, "At church?"
"Yep. If you don't, the car will be filled with zucchini when we get out."

Arlo Guthrie wrote a song for people who hate to garden:
slug by slug weed by weed
boy this garden's got me teed
all the insects come to feed
in my tomato plants
sunburned faced, skinned knees
kitchen choked with ZUCCHINIS
