We're no. 2 (and trying harder)
Oregon comes in near the top of this list, as we all knew it would.
On the other hand, there's this happy fact.

Awaiting Chuck Sheketoff from the Oregon Center for Public Policy to post a comment on how wrong Forbes methodology is and to employ other tax rate barometers displaying how Oregon is in the middle of the pack pertaining to state tax rates.

What? You mean Randy and Sam haven't initiated a city sales tax?
How have they missed this golden opportunity?

So rich people in Oregon get soaked? This really isn't news, it was just voted it in via measure 66. BFD

Ok, I'll do it. Oregon is an average state when it comes to government spending per person. It's ranks as 24th from the top according to the Tax Foundation. http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/287.html.
Now when you don't have a sales tax and property taxes are restricted, you have to get your money from somewhere. The only place left is to jack up the income tax rates.

Actually, you don't have to crunch a single number to question the methodology here: Maine, with two Republican senators, and Iowa are now blue states? Someone's got an agenda going ...
I also note that "soaking the rich" in Maine starts at $20K per head.

Fine by me. Sales tax is regressive. Top weighted income tax is progressive. End of discussion. Thank you very much.

The listing of income tax rank isn't enough information to draw a valid conclusion about tax rates. How does this list look if the ranking is based on sales tax? Taking one fee by itself as an indication of overall state tax rate isn't valid. A listing of total state revenue from all sources a few years ago showed that Oregon was forth from the lowest per capita in the country.

Well it's all worth it because Measure 66 did such a good job of closing our state budget deficit, right?
