Ups and downs
The Times sports section caught up this morning with one of Oregon's own -- the manager of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
I was thinking that I ought to catch one of the last baseball games ever played at PGE Park, but maybe it would be better to stay on the positive tip and take a ride to Keizer for a game down there.

I'm reading Roger Angell's book "Game Time," and he talks with Trebelhorn a couple of times in it and says Tom is a good friend. So I was surprised to find out he was managing the Salem-Kaiser team.
The book, by the way, is a great read. Angell is now 90 and not writing much, but most of the essays were from New Yorker articles over the past several decades.

You could combine a trip to a game with a stop at Schreiner's in Keizer to purchase some spectacular iris for next spring.

It's actually a pretty cool ball-park. Definitely worth the trip.
