To the victors go the Astroturf

Now that they've fended off Little Lord Paulson, Fireman Randy, The Don, Mother Vera, and the Shipracks, it appears that the folks out in the Lents neighborhood in southeast Portland are being shown some proposed improvements for their park. They deserve the upgrade -- but already one can see that the encroachment of soccer onto the baseball field could be a bit of a bone of contention.

This city under the current leadership will never spend any money to improve Lents Park. They can't even keep the grass mowed on outer SE parks.

They should work that Lents meeting with Merritt into the upcoming HBO movie about the financial meltdown. In a small way, it captured the entire crisis - rich people asking poor neighborhoods for more stuff. Oh, well, it probably won't make it.

The word is that William Hurt will play Henry Paulson and the movie will be called, "Too Big to Fail".

One concern is that the book HBO wanted to base it on wasn't ready by script time. I really doubt we'll get a whitewash now - but the movie could be diluted a little. The book they wanted to use sounds like it was really dialed in. It's called, "All the Devils Are Here."

But, but ... It was only a year ago that the neighbors -- well, the loud neighbors -- were telling us that Lents Park was the untouchable emerald treasure of the East Side. Pray tell, what might be the price tag might be for adding polish to such perfection?

And Bill: They already made that movie: "Bonfire of the Vanities."

Roger,
Glad to see you're coming around on this. The Wall Street "Master of the Universe" in "Bonfire of the Vanities" was arrested and charged. He even goes to trial.

I can see the scene now: The Timbers Army protesting outside the courtroom demanding justice for the team's minority owner, Henry Paulson.

Henry Paulson's high-priced lawyer fighting to keep anyone from Lents off the jury.

I like where you're going with this, Roger. Oh, and why not try Dick Cheney while we're at it?

Bill McDonald: . .I like where you're going with this, Roger. Oh, and why not try Dick Cheney while we're at it?

Can not forget that Earl Blumenauer voted NO to even put on the table for discussion about Dick Cheney impeachment! When I called his local office they said that was wrong and that he voted Yes. I had to inform them that I knew better. There were 2 votes. He voted NO to have the discussion, he voted Yes to move the matter into the judiciary committee. It got buried there.
