No surprise here

The Big Apple has discovered that the best strawberry ice cream is made with Hood and Totem strawberries from Oregon and Washington.

They pointed to Oregon, but they meant Portland, which is the great globe itself to that solomn temple (the NYT) of the Big Apple.

Portland: A land where tempests never fall.

That last line is erroneous.

The other thing for which Hoods, Totems, and Puget Summers are all good for is jam.

Indeed, before they fell to the developers' bulldozer blades, the farmlands under Gresham provided a substantial portion of the Stuckey's strawberry jam/preserves offerings, amongst other processors.

I can't speak for the Totems, but the Hoods are great for just plain eating.

Too bad the business side of agriculture knocked Marshalls out of production. While Hoods are good, Marshalls were fabuluous.

One of the benefits of being an endentured servant for the summer in my pre-teen years was all the strawberries I could eat while picking. Never got tired of them. Marshalls are gone now but, but definitely were the best along with the Hoods.

Häagen-Dazs’s strawberry has been using our hoods for at least 25 years.
