That clinking, clanking sound

Former Bulls and Blazers great Scottie Pippen has won a $2 million verdict in a malpractice lawsuit against lawyers who represented him in an ill-fated airplane purchase deal. He had been seeking more than $8 million, but apparently the jury thought Pippen himself bore some of the blame for his losses.

Pippen, who reportedly earned about $120 million in his basketball career, is also reportedly broke these days.

It is amazing to see the kind of money these athletes can burn through in just a few short years.

I think it was Hines Ward from the Steelers who explained it best. "Fifty million sounds like a lot of money, but once you get through with the taxes and stuff it's only $26 million."

Pippen definitely didn't blow all of that money on lavish gratuities. When he played in Portland he was known to local waitstaff as "No-tippin' Pippen".

Small surprise if he's buying stuff like jets. Maybe he can room with MC Hammer.

George Best: “I spent a lot of money on booze, [women], and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.”

Could probably get a job with our city with his ideas on spending!

Well, we know what he didn't spend his money on: tips!

If I'm not mistaken, his house in Forest Heights is still for sale. Has been on the market since he left town. Nice brick mansion with a big outdoor pool, if any of you are looking to trade up from the old doublewide. Anyone?

My favorite NBA player of all time! Glad he's got some good news finally.

Which means he will retire in Florida with a $2m nest egg and probably earn $100K year in interest and 1/4 time work appearing on the occasional Chicago Land sports broadcast or signing basketball cards. The rest of the time he can play golf.

Sounds like a life most of us will spend 40 years working to attain.
