On to the next gimmick
Federal handouts -- thousands to buy a house -- have expired, leaving housing prices back in the doldrums. It will be interesting to see how summer auto sales go without "cash for clunkers," which propped things up in that industry last year. The month of May was apparently a pretty good one for carmakers this year, even without bonus money from Uncle Sam.

Amazing that some expect the Feds to handout money to get things going but no one in City Hall is cutting the red tape or repealing the regulations that add big dollars to the costs of building.
And given the buy local drive it would seem that they could see that higher housing costs result in money leaving the community since most people pay their mortgage to out of state companies.
