or are those dutch iris? I think they're dutch - Japanese grow in clumps.

Actually, I believe they are "Chinese iris". I have them in all white, without the yellow on the falls.
Dutch iris are past, I believe. They tend to be short and close to the ground, unlike the ones shown.
Japanese iris have tiny standards, compared to large falls.
There are scads of different kinds of iris. The tall bearded with which most folks are familiar are, I believe, Iris germanica.
Those are nice specimens, for sure.

For those looking to add these iris to their garden, these look like spuria hybrids. Lots of varieties to choose from.
