Fish falls off sustainability bandwagon

You know he thinks he's got his City Council race locked up if he dares ride around Portland in this baby:

Thanks to LeLo, who's also posted some other excellent photos of today's St. Johns Parade on her wonderful blog.

Perhaps he didn't notice the confederate flag on the license plate?

i'd imagine that a car one would ride in in the St Johns parade would be very different than a car/bike/whatever in a parade in any other part of town.

Looks like Mayor Creepy made it to the parade too:

I hadn't noticed the Confederate flag. Whole 'nother ballgame. Cue the apology in 3... 2... 1...

Uh, maybe that's just a meat-eater's tribute to stakes' rights. "Redneck Yacht Club"? Atta boy Nicky.

But, really, cut him a break -- that is one of those new hybrid campaign vehicles: runs on lies and broken promises.

So the only parade car in Portland is a "Redneckmobile"?

That car had a pair of tennis balls on the back too. Redneck auto testicles.

It's ok as long as Sam isn't behind the wheel!

...Or someone from Tri-Met!

Wow, Mr. Fish. When I think of green, sustainable Portland I always think of a '76 Eldorado with a 504 V8...

At the rate the Chinese are building new coal fired electric plants (two per month), it really doesn't matter what Portlanders drive. Even less so in parades.

The Toyota Pious will save you some gas money and make you feel smug. It is a microscopic milli-drop in the global bucket of carbon emissions.

Ditto for riding your bike to work and to buy groceries: do it because you enjoy the ride and the exercise, because your carbon savings are being spent across the Pacific.

Fish, you've definitely got my vote! Great ride!

What would his endorsers at the Oregon League of Conservation Voters think about this choice?

Heh, I was at the parade and thought that the car was pretty funny. The horns actually did make sound (like a cow) and it was just another member of the Convertible Car Club that were providing cars for the various folks to ride in.

I don't know if they were able to pick their own cars or if it was done randomnly, but perhaps we should determine that before making him out to be the eco-nazi that you're insinuating?

Considering the number of other vehicles in the parade that consumed as much or more gasoline as that caddy at essentially idle, I'd say there are bigger fish to fry if you're going to make a stink about it.

It was hilarious when Sam came rolling through on his convertible gas-guzzler that the crowd essentially went silent. I know I didn't wave or hoot/holler, like I had earlier and afterwards. Wonder if he noticed?

Either way, it was a fun day and an excellent parade that doesn't take itself too seriously, some folks got to show off themselves and some others got to show off their cars and a bunch of kids had their minds expanded by seeing a bunch of cool stuff and people having fun.

Ranz--

You are correct--'76 Eldorado.

The parade organizers kindly arranged for the ride.

The owner won "honorable mention" this year from the parade jurors -beat out by a Model T and other vintage cars.

The OLCV gave me an exemption for the parade--since I agreed to carpool with my family!

The commissioner from Nike never apologizes:

Hey Nick,

Don't worry about the comments here....everyone reading this page is also glimpsing your campaign ad on the right-hand side!

And you, van Orden and Volm are helping pay Jack's mortgage, but I can't figure out if that counts as "public service" or not.

Commissioner Fish,
Are you aware that the health of the community will be affected if the reservoirs are covered - with respect to the radon problem?

Have you seen the radon map?
