Through the looking glass
The Portland City Council continues to behave strangely on the question of what to do with the Memorial Coliseum. The Trail Blazers appear to have a huge advantage over the other groups with ideas for the aging facility. The Blazers' Drunktown Jumptown plan -- plastic, touristy, corporate pile that it is -- seems pretty much invincible. But the city continues to announce to the world that it's considering other options, including upgrading the Coliseum to do a better job of what it does now -- serve as a junior public events venue to the Rose Garden next door.
The whole discussion seems kind of silly. It's hard to see anybody coming up with the money for doing anything serious there for five to 10 years. Why force a decision now?
And unless and until Little Lord Paulson conclusively moves his minor league baseball team out of town, nobody's going to convince us that his stadium plan for the Coliseum site is completely off the table.

totally agree.
there's no money or will for mass development right now.
also, all the development in the world isn't going to change that location until they figure out a way to incorporate the Rose Garden into the rest of that neighborhood.
the way it is currently set, you have to cross several streets, a train line, a river and a bridge to get there.

Meanwhile, the real estate hype blog is folding too, another victim of reality smashing through delusion:

If we spent a small fraction of the time we've wasted on:
- Gren bldgs
- Streetcars
- Burnside bridgeheads
- compost recyling
- bike lanes
- MC plans
- etc
Pn the schools, wouldn't this be a nice town?
Wh says bread and circuses still don't work after 2500 years?

Amazing how they pretend to be doing due diligence, while at the same time licking on the well-heeled boots of their paymasters.
