Is Thursday night tagger night?

A reader writes: "Anybody else notice that there is more graffiti activity on Thursday nights?"

Thursday night used to mean cheap alcohol at the campus bar. I imagine it still does...

Yup. Thursday night is $1 Oly night at my local tavern, which is north of Reed about a half mile.

Thirsty Thursdays!!

It's because things are quieter, so the taggers have a better chance of getting away. Friday and Saturday nights, you have more people up and about, so you have more people likely to call the cops or chuck beer bottles at the little vermin. Thursday nights, though, everyone's at home trying to gather the energy for one more workday.

If you're like this latest tagger and living in Mom's basement, Thursdays might be her Bingo night so you can go out and she won't know.

The city should build special walls for graffiti artists to be able to use their talents. The thrill of the hunt is in climbing to wild spots and putting your name up, but private businesses might find less damage if the art was recognized and given an outlet.

Unfortunately, for every "graffitti artist", there are 100 taggers, defacing other peoples' property with their illegible scrawls. It's no more art than a dog pissing on a fire hydrant - in fact, it's inspired by the same animal urge to mark territory.

I own a local business, and I have to spend $100s on removing tags each year. Guess who pays - everybody except the little $#|+heads with the sharpies and paint cans. :(

I feel for you, JD. I used to live in an apartment building where one girl living there was friends with a whole slew of local taggers. After the first time the hallways were repainted to cover up the morons' tags, she was told, very publicly, that if her friends didn't knock it off, she'd be evicted. Is it any real surprise that even after she told her friends about the situation, that one of them tagged the front door that same day?
