Winter storm watch posted
Portland could be in for snow and freezing rain starting tomorrow night. But the city's transportation bureau is already getting ready. They've been testing some of their new equipment up on Mount Hood over the last month or so, and they say they're in great shape for the first winter storm of the season. They've posted photos of some of the tests on the city's website -- here, here, and here.

Why does "Keep Portland Weird" come to mind when I see those photos?

I love those Green Machines.
But how on earth did you get Earl to pose on that bike-plow?

That made me chuckle...

The leg is a powerful force when used correctly. Do they have a lawn mower attachment, or a leaf blower/rake option.

Nice to see the city hard at work, perhaps fireman Randy will arm the plows so they can repel boarders.

Due to budget cuts, however, there are only four rigs available for the entire city, so please be patient.

That is so funny. Sometimes fiction becomes truth. There was an article about bicycle Christmas tree deliveries in the O supplement today. The article also ran a photo which was just as funny. I should have ordered one to be delivered to West Slope via the Sunset Highway.

Where's the photo of the bicyclist pedaling away to generate the electricity for Sammy's photo op telling us to shovel our own snow?

Are those Green Stimulus jobs?

Well, I'll sure feel good about my city knowing it's not out spewing diesel emissions and dumping toxic de-icers on the streets when I'm stuck in a snowy traffic jam with my car idling for hours.

I heard an interview with a PDOT guy today. They've been putting down de-icer for the past few days, which is great, except that if it rains before it freezes, the rain washes away the de-icer. So...what's the point of de-icer if it washes away?

...if it rains before it freezes
You must not have been in town for the last few days.

Why oh why do I hear Red Green telling us all "If the women don't find you handsome, at least they should find you handy" when I look at these photos?
