Forget that whole lawyer thing
Merritt Paulson's spouse, Heather Mahar Paulson, appears to have had her California law license suspended for failure to pay the $125 annual dues for an inactive membership. Her registration status is also listed as "delinquent" in the New York court system's attorney directory.
Is this a vote of confidence in the future of major league soccer? Apparently. A license to practice law isn't exactly like a subscription to Sunset magazine. They don't keep sending you notices begging you to renew.

You silly, a Paulson can't be bothered with technical little rules and laws. They are too busy saving the country, and rescuing little towns who don't appreciate a good deal when they see it!

Who cares? If she chooses not to renew this (although I personally think that's shortsighted considering the dollars involved), what does it have to do with the soccer/baseball stuff? Maybe she has another focus in her life now, like her kids.

Even though we don't have enough money to spare to buy season tickets to the Beavers, we've kept up my wife's inactive status with the Oregon Bar despite the fact that she hasn't practiced for nearly 20 years and there's not a chance in hell that she'll ever do so again.
Coming up again in January, I guess. Thank God English majors don't have any sort of licensing scheme....

Why the hell would she need to keep up pretenses when she's riding the gravy train?
She didn't sign a pre-nup, did she?

Perhaps she has no interest in practicing law.

Jack most of the ration world agrees with your take on the stupidity of throwing public dollars at Paulson's projects.
Taking cheap shots at Paulson's family undermines the rest of your analysis.
If you keep with this you'll create more sympathy for him than you did for Palin.

I think it goes to who the Paulsons are, and how they view the world. That in turn goes to their credibility.
If one wanted to take personal shots at them, noting their status with state bar organizations would not be the place to start.

No.... it undermines your credibility Bojack for taking potshots at someone who is not in the public spotlight.... LLP and King Henry are fair game Mrs. LLP is not...

Ms. Paulson is a celebrity in her own right -- a fact that would be exploited to no end by the Paulsons if it suited them.
Besides, no one is making a moral issue out of this. It's just interesting.

Interesting? Really?

She's kind of a hottie.

Assuming she believes her own drivel, then I'm betting that she did sign a pre-nup.

I think it's interesting when any lawyer would allow his or her bar membership to lapse, especially when inactive dues are relatively cheap. You do all that work, pass the bar exam, and then say "Screw it"? That takes a certain kind of person.

I'm told there is an elected official who did all the work, passed the bar exam and never practiced law.
