Maybe we ain't that young any more

Bruce Springsteen
Bruce Springsteen turns 60 today -- old, perhaps, but not this old (mp3).

Yeah, He showed up on the Cover of my AARP magazine a couple of months ago, along with Ron Howard, etc. Good Article on the boss, but scary as another Icon joins AARP.

Oldie, but a goodie.

I am amazed at how many high school kids today like the music of the 70s and 80s, instead of today's music. Too bad, Kanye.

Yup, happy birthday, Boss! I'm glad to share (9/23/54) my birthday with Bruce, (but of course, he's a bit older). Do I have to join AARP now?

I am sorry but I have never gotten the whole Bruce Springsteen thing. I kinda like a few of his very early songs, but the man is way too overrated.

I saw him on PBS a few nights back "rockin' out" with Pete Seeger and Joan Baez (yuck) to some old folk anthem and the guy just looked ridiculous.

Hopefully he will soon retire to the same old folks home as Jimmy Carter, Bono, and Barbara Streisand.

Well, hey, I can understand the bitterness--the liberals get Springsteen, the conservatives get Ted Nugent. I'll take that trade any day of the week.

Hard to believe the guy is 60. I was just listening to my old rough and scratchy bootleg of a show he did in '78, marveling at how fresh songs like Darkness and Racing in the Street sound, even today.

Dave J - I have a co-worker who also doesn't get Bruce - but hey, I have a friend who loves Train, but I don't get them. I'll stay on the side of the Springsteen fans - I think the politics are better.

XM satellite radio (which has a station all Bruce, all the time) has been playing audio birthday wishes all day - the live concert today was from 1978 - I think his voice is actually better today, and yes, the songs hold up incredibly well.

Some of Springsteen's songs seem to get better with age. There's some filler in there -- the last album being a glaring example, or about a third of "The River" -- but by and large it's a strong, strong body of work.
