America 2009

So here I am in the car dealership, waiting for service on my vehicle to be finished, when over the Muzak comes James Brown doing "Please Please Please." Is this supposed to sell new cars? "I just wanna say I -- I, I, I, I..." Meanwhile an elderly lady is asking the sales guy about a hybrid Civic. Then out of the body shop rolls a '63 Chevy Impala Super Sports.

Nobody here is going by streetcar.

Try Gladstone Honda next time. Last Friday, they offered Jonathan Richman's "Radio On," among similar moving songs that proved pleasantly distracting from FT reporter Gillian Tett's "Fool's Gold," the story of how JPMorgan -- the banksters who, with Henry Merritt Paulson, Jr's blessing, stole WaMu last Sept 25th -- created the novel credit derivatives that so devastated their competitors, our economy, and a lot of now-unemployed people.

Streetcar? I can walk faster.

If you're going to use James Brown one would think that Sex Machine would be a better marketing tool.

Wish I could take a bus or something to work. Thought about pedaling my bike the 5 miles, but I've been clipped once riding my bike on local roads and it scared the bejeebers out of me. Epitaph - "Lou was run over by some idiot driving while on their cell phone".
