Tri-Met service cuts 2.0
They're still gutting bus service so that they can pay for streetcars and other condo marketing toys, but for now they're keeping the ghosts of a few good old bus lines that they were planning to kill altogether. For example, Grant High School to downtown is apparently still going to require a transfer. A real shame for Portland -- one more straw on the back of the livability camel.

I am very glad to see the 33 Fremont remaining in service between Emmanuel and Gateway. That one is somewhat essential to the life of many of my family members.
Still, the whole prospect of these cuts is a blight on the city, and a very definite reason to oust Mayor "mass transit for the wealthy" Adams in 3.5 months.
Unless, of course, I suddenly am selected to move into one of his planned, gated "sustainability zones" in the future.

Of course, with ridership up, there would be no need for cuts if the riders paid their real cost - TriMet's revenue (and profits) would be going through the roof.
Why don't riders pay their actual costs? Instead of getting welfare for 80% of their transpiration costs.
Thanks

Because if it was that expensive, most people would either skip the fare, or just drive their car.

The same reason why car drivers don't pay their actual costs for the roads - the government decided that certain infastructure is important enough to spend property taxes and other non-user-fee taxes on. But that's not to say the investment is always wrong - who knows where we would be without the massive investment we've made in freeways and other large transit projects.

Not to mention a few trillion for wars and military might to keep oil "cheap." A few hundred billion to deal with the health consequences. A few hundred billion to scrap the 30k dead and millions of injured off the road each year. All cheap at twice the price as it gives a man-child like Karlock a smug sense of individualistic, frontier pride.

Holding an East Portland TriMet Forum tonight at EPNA meeting room 1017 NE 117th at 6:30. This one is independent of TM.
Notice NONE of the Trimet forums held east of 8th Avenue? Wonder why-
