Meeeeeeee-ow!

The City of Portland parking flap just got flappier.

parking meters do only one thing well--generate revenue. they've never been shown to successfully accomplish their "official" purpose--making parking easily available for nearby businesses. and the claim that "local businesses determine their location" is ultimately bull.

here's a modest proposal--rip out all parking meters.

oh, wait--that'd cut deeply into the parking revenue of parking structure owners, who own a lot of land and wield a heavy sack of clout.

in other words, parking meters are just another scam. always have been.

Boy, that didn't take long to throw in the race card.

With a black president about to be sworn in, is the race card obsolete?
