What's the big deal? Lots of millionaires donate money to hospitals and schools. It happens all the time. Thousand points of light, and all.
Just because the hospital is located in NYC and the oilman (Mr. Isenberg) lives in Texas shouldn't preclude him from donating.
And who really knows if he actually met with the lobbyist (Mr. Kies) on February 12 at the Carlyle Hotel, a scant few minutes after having breakfast with the Nabors Industries CEO? The New York Times alleges that Mr. Kies shared sweet rolls and coffee with Mr. Rangel's RIGHT AFTER BREAKFAST! But they offer no photographic or electronic recording evidence. Does Mr. Rangel, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps before becomng a member of the House of Representives for three decades, look like the kind of guy who would eat breakfast with the CEO, get a million dollar donation from the CEO, meet with a lobbyist who works for the CEO, promise to support a tax break worth billions, and then forget about it? Why would the man eat two breakfasts within minutes of each other? It makes no sense.
And if you're going to indict a liberal Democrat who sit on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, aren't you really indicting the ethical standards of the U.S. Congress?
Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not going to sit here and listen while you criticize the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Gentlemen! (leaves the room with members of Delta House whistling)
