That card has already been played. There is no comparison to the level at which Obama was involved with Ayers and the Palins involvement with that group.
What's next? We gonna start talking about that Pat Buchanan button she once wore?
There is no doubt whatsoever that the Palin membership in the AIP is a far more serious issue in regard to the subject matter of patriotism than Obama's very loose affiliation with William Ayers. At the request of one of Obama's supporters, Ayers, named Chicago's Citizen of the Year in 1997, hosted a coffee fund-raiser for Obama at his home. At the time of the fund-raiser Obama was a young community organizer who was preparing to make his first run for the Illinois Sentate. Obama was not familiar with Ayer's past criminal activity at that point in time, and there is no evidence that the two were in any way connected prior to that event. Subsequently the two were active, along with dozens of others, in a non-profit effort through a grant from the Annenberg Foundation to improve education in Chicago. Obama denounced Ayer's prior criminal acts as "destestable" when the right wing began trying to make something out of nothing about their so-called relationship.
Todd Palin on the other hand was a card carrying member of an organization that has continously promulgated the secession of Alaska from the United States of America. Joe Volger, the colorful former leader of the AIP was qouted as follows: "My government is my worst enemy. I'm going to fight them with any
means at hand." Mr. Volger died in 1993 under mysterious circumstances involving plastic explosives. Just prior to his death, he had made arrangments with the government of Iran to sponsor his appearence at the United Nations so he could denounce the tyranny of the United States government. The main policy plank of the AIP continues to be pursuit of secession from the United States of America.
Obviously, Sarah Palin isn't Todd Palin, but she sleeps with him, cooks his moose burgers, and has a house full of kids with him. It is known that she attended at least one AIP convention. She also did a video voicing her support of the AIP that was played at their most recent convention.
The lack of attention to this topic by the mainstream media is somewhat astonishing. Palin is being completely hypocritical by accusing Obama of being so fundamentally at odds with what this country stands for that he has no problem "palling around with terrorists". The Palins are so fundamentally at odds with what the United States stands for that they were active members of a group that wants to secede from it.
If we start checking into Palins' links to the wingnuts at the Alaskan Independence Party, then the terrorists will have won.
On the other hand, Alabama independence is something I could be persuaded to support. Now that the wingnuts' dandy little experiment with The Magic of the Marketplace is crashing down around our heads, these folks need a new place to run their fascinating little social experiments. I can see the flag of the Christian Republic of Alabama already: a burning cross and a Bible on a field of red.
I decided to spend a few moments in the enemy camp tonight by watching a little Hannity and Colmes on Fox. Newt Gingrich was a guest and behaving in his usual smug a-hole mode. Colmes, usually a pathetic spineless weasel, took Newt Gingrich to task in regard to the Palins' association with the AIP. He responded to the inquiry by completely ignoring Todd Palin's well documented 7 year card carrying (don't you love how that "card carrying" thing is coming around to bite them in the ass) association with this fringe group, and then proceeded to insist that "Little Miss Perfect" Sarah Palin did the AIP cheerleader video PURELY in her role as a "promoter of commerce", or something of that ilk, because the convention just happened to be in her little wonderful town of Wasilla. Wow! In answering to this whole AIP thing these guys are F-ing nervous and running scared. The basic logic of it all is inescapable...you can't claim to be a great American patriot and have a membership in a political party that calls for secession from United States of America at the same time. It doesn't add up, and it never will.

Politicians and hypocrisy? Be still my beating heart! A ticket on the losing side digging out skeletons while oblivious to their own? You don't say!
Hey McPalin: Bring on the October Surprise; the Ayers storyline is old.

Compared to the flag lapel that Obama didn't wear, sure, sounds like fair game.
Or the John Birch literature she was photographed reading when she was a city council member.

And as if on queue, info now surfaces that Barak was a member of the socialist New Party:

Who says anything ever has to "add up" in red state America?
