CERN appears to have the same affliction as NASA, post-1969: They are known for their past legacy, but have no long term goals in place to assure their future role in scientific research, and are burning money at a rate that makes their government funding a little more questionable.
Fortunately, this isn't involving much US funding.

With appropriate tools, knowledge, and the will to use them, most anything can be hacked. In general, however, hackers aren't out to cause damage. Too bad the same can't be said for Wall Street.

Wouldn't it be great if they discovered the keys to advanced energy technology? Of course the collider is man-made, and nothing we make is perfect. But this is a risk we should take, glitches and all.
