More strangeness for Multnomah County
First we couldn't figure out whether it's legal for the county to spend the car rental tax on something other than roads. Now we can't figure out whether you need to be a law enforcement officer in order to be elected sheriff. State lawyers say one thing, county counsel says another. What a goofy place sometimes.

Agnes needs to move on.

Maybe the whole county needs to move on. Fold it into the City of Portland, and save dough on bureaucracy.

I would welcome a breath of fresh air like Oakland, but I think Agnes is right: home rule counties can exceed state standards because of circumstances that make their counties unique, but they can't just ignore them.
Imo the machine that seems to run both Portland and the county ought to be run off a cliff! I was just thinking the other day how maddening it is to have half wits like Lisa Naito on the taxpayer's payroll.

So it turns out that Bernie Giusto was qualified to be sheriff after all.
