Happy ending
Here's a story from up 'Couv way that has the classic plot: port commissioners and developer weasels in the back room, and some concerned citizens outside, armed with open meetings laws, guts, and persistence. Good for them.

Where are the civic activists South of the Columbia ready to do the same job? One can only view our League of Women Voters, City Club, etc, as captive of the private interests hogging at the public trough down here. Shameful.

Look to your local neighborhood association. Not all of them, mind you; but enough are active and watching the store that it does make a difference.

I don't know about any others, however, Boise Neighborhood Assn. can be counted among "not all of them." BSN has completely silenced the longtime residential neighborhood wishes for livability in their pursuit of progress, prestige & most importantly, profit.
And don't give me that increased property values cr*p! Nobody's buying and my taxes keep goin' up.
