Although I worked in DC, and that day was my birthday besides, instead of being down at the Mall, I was at a convention in Toronto. That night, in the hotel bar, I was the only person watching the late CBC news coverage of the speech; none of the Canadians were looking at the screen. Really disorienting experience. Wish I'd been there, of course.

Proud to say I was there. Was only a kid and didn't really understand the significance of it, but went out of curiosity and will always prize the memory.
