It's farcical to think that the sentencing of Donaghy did anything to clean up the NBA referee mess. He was able to correctly gamble on the outcome of 37 out of 47 games armed only with the "insider" knowledge of which referees were assigned to those games (see this Salon.com piece: http://www.salon.com/sports/daily/feature/2008/07/29/donaghy/index.html).
Who referees a game can tell you the outcome of that game? That smells.
