He's actually issued mea culpa's for a lot of the things he once supported: drug war, patriot act, Iraq war, etc.
He was on Colbert recently and some of these were mentioned:

As a republican voter, I expect McCain to lose in November (barring some huge Obama scandal). So I plan to vote for Barr just to send my party a message.
